In the wake of releasing their first single of the classic song ‘Oró Sé do Bheatha ‘Bhaile’, Mullingar band Some One’s Sons are on the rise, charting a new course through traditional Irish folk music. Now, they are on tour, bringing their fresh twist on Irish anthems to Monroe’s Live on Saturday, May 27 at 8pm.
Delivering favourites such as ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ and ‘Bould O’Donohue’, this four-piece are making waves internationally, having formed as a group over two years ago. Since then, they’ve brought their energetic flair to Ausburg in Germany, delivering back-to-back concerts to captivated audiences. Not only that, but they have supported artists of such calibre as Gavin James, The Academic, Nathan Carter and the Whistlin’ Donkeys.
Inspired by The Dubliners, The Clancy Brothers, Planxty and Christy Moore, the threads of these Irish music legends are woven throughout their performances. United by a strong passion for folk music, this midlands quartet are emerging as one of Ireland’s leading groups, storming through traditional classics with power and panache.
The quartet consist of brothers Greg and Ger Dunne, alongside Daniel Allen and Ray Purcell. Together, they deliver pitch perfect harmonies, with rousing up-tempo instrumentals that dive at the heart of much-loved Irish ballads. Their charismatic and lively gigs are offset with delicate vocals for slower airs, ensuring they stay true to the heritage of the melodies.
Currently working on their first EP, Some One’s Sons are on the cusp of creating a musical legacy in their own right. The intimate setting of the Backstage venue at Monroe’s Live provides the perfect backdrop to catch this emerging Irish band at the start of their international career.
They will be supported by the stunning sound of Mullingar singer-songwriter Meghan Bates, who creates soaring vocals and haunting originals based on her daily life experience. At a young age, Meghan is forging her own path on the Irish music scene with songs such as ‘Summer House’ and ‘4:30am’.
Inspired by Fleetwood Mac and Lana Del Rey, Meghan is proficient on both keyboard and guitar, bringing her talented acoustic stylings to the Monroe’s Live stage. Join Some One’s Sons with support from Meghan Bates on Saturday, May 27 at 8pm. Tickets cost €12 and are available from monroes.ie
