Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan Cheevers has called on Galway City Council to apply for funding to the Department of Transport for a new access at the back of Roscam estates.
Cllr Cheevers says bad planning over the years is causing traffic and congestion issue coming from estates, especially during peak hours.
“What we have seen are more housing developments constructed over the last few years but only one access point to and from estates.
“I believe what we need to see now is funding for new access fast-tracked. This access would be at back of Boirreann Beag Estate onto dual carriageway and coast road always a provision could be made for a cycle and walkway to Oranmore Train Station. “Currently residents are being inconvenienced by Active Travel construction work on South Doughiska road which is causing further chaos.
“In last year’s Galway City Development Plan I proposed that we would look at a new access from back of Boirreann Beag and this submission was supported by my colleagues and passed. Now we need to see funding applied for,” he concluded.
