Galway Technical Institute presents the artists and designers of the future in their 2023 pop-up end of year student art exhibition. As the name HeadstART suggests, students from the Art Portfolio Preparation QQI Level 5 programme have a great head start on graduating from the programme at GTI, where they are equipped with the skills and art and design understanding that supports them in successfully progressing to a range of further education or third level opportunities.
The exhibition’s opening reception will take place at GTI from 6.30pm on Thursday, May 18 and GTI will welcome ATU contemporary art lecturer and artist, Katharine West, as guest speaker to formally open this year’s show. This pop-up exhibition will be on view to the public until 11am on Friday, May 19.
GTI has acquired a reputation for educational excellence and for providing a supportive learning environment for students. The Art Portfolio Preparation programme has an unbroken reputation in gaining high scores from all the Irish art and design colleges and from those in the UK. The Level 5 art portfolio programme is seen as an essential foundation in gaining the key art and design skills, knowledge and concepts that support students in progressing to all the higher education institutions of art and design in Ireland and the UK. This year, students from the art portfolio programme have been selected to complete a three-week Erasmus+ placement in Malaga, Spain, along with visiting various art colleges and taster days to explore the exciting range of progression opportunities available on graduating from GTI.
GTI looks forward to welcoming you to the HeadstART exhibition on Thursday, May 18 from 6.30pm where you can enjoy the visual expression of the students’ remarkable journeys, with work that will include experimental drawing, energising painting, innovative 3D design and much more.
