Are you between 18 to 25 years of age and interested in curating a programme of events? The Town Hall Theatre is seeking two young people to join their NASC Network’s Young Curators programme for 2023/24. The closing date is 1pm on Tuesday May 16. The curators must be from, live in, or have a strong connection to Galway and its communities.
What does curate mean?
It’s about programming and producing creative work in the performing and visual arts. This means that you will select shows you have seen for Town Hall Theatre’s programme of events, or you might make a show in collaboration with young curators in other venues. Curating means managing the event from the first conversation with artists to the day of the performance, making sure everything runs smoothly. You will be supported by the team at Town Hall Theatre, other young curators, and professionals hired to support the programme.
Young Curators Festival
Town Hall Theatre and its partner venues in the Nasc Touring Network have teamed up to present a Young Curators Festival programme across all eight venues in the network in June 2024. The programme will run from June 2023 and will culminate in a festival in June 2024.
Throughout the year, you’ll have the opportunity to meet up with other young curators from across the NASC Network, both online and in person. You’ll receive mentoring from industry professionals in marketing, touring and venue management. You’ll learn about negotiating deals, how to approach artists and companies, and how to manage budgets. You’ll also visit the Galway International Arts Festival in July 2023 which will be an opportunity to meet your fellow curators in person and experience some excellent arts programming in the flesh.
In Spring 2024, you will work towards programming events for our Young Curators Festival which will take place between June 3 and June 8 2024.
Who should apply?
The programme is ideal for those aged between 18 and 25 who would like to gain experience in working in the arts, especially those interested in venue and festival management and programming. Town Hall Theatre welcomes expressions of interest from students and recent arts graduates and also those coming from less traditional educational backgrounds. They encourage applications by people from a diversity of national, ethnic or cultural groups, including, but not limited to, Asian, Black, Traveller and minority ethnic, refugees, people with disabilities, neurodiversity people, working-class and LGBTQI+.
If you're interested, email Fergal Mc Grath on [email protected] no later than 1pm on Tuesday May 16, telling him a little bit about yourself and why you want to participate in this programme (max 300 words ).
