Appoint Clybaun Road traffic wardens now before children are killed, warns councillor

Galway City Council needs to expedite the appointment of school traffic wardens before someone is killed or seriously injured, a city councillor has warned.

Cllr Niall McNelis has again called on Galway City Council for an immediate update and filling of school traffic wardens especially for the Clybaun Road area in Knocknacarra.

He said that the posts have been unfilled for over six months and pedestrians especially young children are at serious risk.

“Yesterday an adult pedestrian was hit while assisting children crossing. The speed on this road has been highlighted on numerous occasions and again I have contacted Gardai to assist on this road and I am appealing to motorists to slow down.

“Last month the speed issue was raised when local councillors met the Garda Superintendent and also a written question was sent to the City Council Chief Executive.

“The Clybaun Road crossing is for two local schools and is very busy at same set times each day.

“It’s not fair to residents, parents, children and staff if you are not safe crossing the road to school. These positions must be filled and urgent action by Garda Traffic Section is required now,” he said.
