On Friday April 14 at 12 noon, auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan welcomed the people of Ireland into his digital auction room which was broadcast remotely on the O’Donnellan & Joyce company website and social media platforms for all to see by Brandt Studios.
The O’Donnellan & Joyce April property auction, which took place last Friday, was highly successful with 12 properties sold on the drop of the hammer during the auction and after some post auction negotiation resulting in additional sales. Many properties performed exceptionally well at the auction, reaching their reserves and over. Commencing at 12 noon last Friday, bidders viewed the auction from the comfort of their own homes and offices, while bidding by telephone, proxy and internet bidding. Some of the successful sales on the day include the following.
Lot 1 – No 1 Priests Lane, Carrick On Shannon, Co Leitrim
Lot 1 of the day was an end of terrace corner building comprising two individual units which would be ideal for either commercial or residential usage. The property was previously used as commercial on the ground floor with residential accommodation overhead and has space to the rear making it suitable for development purposes. This lot had a huge number of registered bidders and after more than 20 bids, the bidding which opened at €120,000 finished at €180,000, an impressive €60,000 over its reserve price.
Lot 2 - No 4 Ballyroe, Williamstown, Co Galway
This was a fine four bedroom detached family home in an attractive country setting in the north Galway village of Williamstown. Although the property was in good condition throughout, it could benefit from some cosmetic upgrading. Nonetheless, this did not put off prospective buyers and after intense bidding from interested parties who tried to purchase via telephone and online bidding, the lot sold for €200,000 which was €60,000 over its reserve price of €140,000. No 4 Ballyroe is sure to become a spectacular property once renovations are complete.
Lot 3 - No 49A Gleann na Coille, Barna Road, Galway
No 49A Gleann na Coille was a beautifully appointed four bedroom residence, tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac at the edge of Barna Woods. Gleann na Coille is a sought-after development of detached homes, and No 49A has been carefully maintained and upgraded over the years and is in turnkey condition. The sale concluded at a sale price of €360,000 and will provide the buyer with an ideal investment or starter home in a popular area of Galway city.
Lot 4 – No 21 Cnoc an Luir, Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim
No 21 Cnoc an Luir is a four bedroom semidetached residence just off the Carrick Road in the heart of Drumshanbo. The property is within walking distance of all amenities and services and ideally located next to the local business centre, approximately 6km from Leitrim village and 12km from Carrick-on-Shannon. Although the property could benefit from some cosmetic upgrading, this was the perfect starter home or investment property in a popular commuter town. Bidding on this lot commenced at the AMV of €130,000 and concluded at a sale price of €167,000 after some fast paced bidding.
Lot 6 - No 1 Ashview Court, Ashview Drive, Sixmilebridge, Co Clare
This lot was a ground floor two bedroom apartment within a small apartment complex in the residential development of Ashview Court. The apartment is currently vacant and could benefit from some cosmetic upgrading but offers enormous potential as an excellent starter home or investment property. This property attracted interest from potential investors and the property went under the hammer on the day for €105,000.
Lot 7 - No 2A The Cobblestones, Eyre Street, Galway
No 2A The Cobblestones was a spacious two bed ground floor apartment situated in the heart of Galway city centre. The property is located within moments of Woodquay and Eyre Square and directly opposite the side entrance to Dunnes Stores. This is an excellent location and attracted great interest from the market with many inquiries from people looking to pre-register to bid. This lot sold for €198,000 to a very happy purchaser and is sure to become a fantastic city centre home.
Lot 8 - No 39 Arasain na Mara, Salthill, Galway
This excellent one bedroom third floor apartment was situated just off Salthill Promenade in Salthill village. The property has direct ocean views from the side balcony and also has views along the Promenade from the central glass stairwell tower. Arasain na Mara also benefits greatly from the local amenities that Salthill has to offer such as shops, bars, restaurants and hotels and is within easy access of Galway city centre, making it an ideal investment property or holiday home. After intense bidding the property, which commenced at the AMV of €190,000, sold for €220,000 which was an impressive €30,000 over the reserve price.
Lot 10 - No 2 Old Market Street, Co Sligo
Lot 10 of the day was a terraced property which was previously used as a dental surgery on the ground floor with a one bed apartment overhead. This was a central property in Sligo town, located on Old Market Street which is between Pearse Road and High Street. The property does require upgrading throughout and has the potential to provide an excellent commercial/residential property for the purchaser. Bidding on this lot commenced at the AMV of €125,000 and sold for €140,000.
Lot 14 - Fallons Bar, Clonaslee, Co Laois
Fallons Bar was an end-of-terrace building currently run as a public house with the licence due for renewal. The property had a ground floor bar area along with overhead residential space and was being sold occupied. Located in the centre of the village of Clonaslee, Fallons Bar is located approximately 30km from both Laois town and Birr, Co Offaly. Bidding on this lot concluded at €80,000.
Lot 20 - No 3 Market Square, Gort, Co Galway
This was a large, mid-terrace property extending to 212sq m over three floors and a basement. Additionally, there are a number of outbuildings to the rear of the site which measures c0.7 acre. With excellent potential for future development, No 3 Market Square Gort offers huge potential for a number of uses. This lot sold prior to auction.
