Shanghai manufacturer SAIC claims to produce the world’s cheapest electric vehicle.
Available in China, the GM-owned Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is priced at €3,750 from new, and unsurprisingly around 370,000 units of the car have been sold there in the last year.
The Mini EV comes with a choice of two battery packs - a 9.3kWh that provides a range of 120 km, or a 13.8kWh battery with a promised range of 170km.
Top speed is said to be just 100 km/h. While the car’s spec sheet says it has four seats, the Mini EV only measures 2,917mm long and 1,493mm wide, meaning boot space is pretty much non-existent - there is only 741 litres of space with the rear seats folded down.
It is maybe not something we can ever expect to see in this part of the world, but despite the price, would we really want it?
