A local dance troupe comprising of 14 girls aged between 12 to 17 years old have qualified for the World Hip Hop Dance Championship taking place in Arizona, USA this August.
The dance group which is named SIS POWER CREW who dance with Liosbaun Business Park based, 4M Dance Centre, qualified following their win in the JV (Junior Varsity ) Megacrew Division at the Hip Hop Ireland Championship on April 2, beating defending champions, Fusion.
This is the biggest win in the girl’s dancing careers to date, having previously won regional titles at similar competitions and they are buzzing with excitement for the upcoming competition.
Owners of 4M Dance Centre, Monika Antczak and Yuri McDonnell, who are also instructors and main choreographers for SIS POWER CREW, say this win is mind-blowing.
“No words can describe how blessed, thankful and proud we are. It is a dream of every dancer to represent their country on the biggest stage in the world so the fact that we qualified for the World Hip Hop Championships is mind-blowing. We are so happy, and now more than ever we know that hard work pays off and the sky is the limit.”
Such is the focus on even getting to the competition that Antczack, McDonnell and SIS POWER CREW are not even thinking about potential winning celebrations just yet and are focused on being able to take part.
“We are not trying to think about winning right now, of course we are going to do everything in our power to go as far as possible in the competition, but we are first setting our mindset on the whole experience. Sharing a dance floor with the best dancers in the world is already a huge win, however if we win we don’t know how we will celebrate but we will 100 percent do something crazy. You can expect 100 TikTok videos from us.”
The World Hip Hop Championships will be taking place in early August this year and will see Antczak, McDonnell, SIS POWER CREW and some of the girl’s parents will be making the 16,000 kilometre round trip to the competition, provided they can cover travel, accommodation, costumes and food costs.
Antczack and McDonnell say that SIS POWER CREW and the coaching team remain motivated as ever, but due to the high cost nature of the trip, they are not sure they will be able to go.
“We are motivated more than ever, but first we need to be 100 percent sure we can actually go. With such a big event so far away, there are massive costs that we cannot afford ourselves and this is the part where we would like to ask for help to make our dream come true. We have set up a GoFundMe for the event where we will be raising money. We are looking for sponsors and any possible help.
“We would like to ask for help in making our dream come true and would really appreciate any help from our beautiful city of Galway including any potential sponsorship from Irish companies and a lot of support. We promise to proudly represent Ireland on the highest level and we want to make everyone proud and able to say, ‘they are from my country’.
