Kyne welcomes planning permission grant for new school building for Scoil Mhuire, Moycullen

Senator Seán Kyne has welcomed the granting of planning permission for a new school building for Scoil Mhuire, Moycullen. The application has been confirmed by Galway County Council following the submission of further information by the Board of Management.

Senator Kyne has stated that the new proposed development will be a two storey building, consisting of 16 classrooms, a general purpose hall, special classrooms and ancillary buildings. The development will be at the existing school site, including additional land to the rear.

“This is great news for Moycullen, the children of the area, who deserve the best facilities available and while other sites were considered, the school remains at the heart of the village on a larger site, accessible to the majority,” said Senator Kyne, a past pupil of Scoil Mhuire.

A construction entrance is planned at the back of the school to reduce disruption and protect safety of school patrons.

“While prefabs have been replaced in recent years, the accommodation needs updating and improving and additional land will allow for a new two storey building,” he said.

“The building of the school to the rear of the existing school will ensure no disruption to teaching during construction and no necessary transfer to another site” concluded Senator Kyne.
