A Galway music teacher who was inspired to compose a piece of music to mark the momentous signing of the Good Friday Agreement a quarter of a century ago this week is to release it with all proceeds going to chairty.
With events being held this week and next to mark the 25th anniversary of the agreement, Kiltulla-native music teacher Mary Tansey who now lives in Knocknacarra decided that releasing the CD will inspire us on the occasion and will also raise funds for the Galway Hospice.
On the night of the historic signing on April 10, 1998, Mary was moved to take to her piano keys to produce a beautiful piece of music entitled Peace Melody.
Mary, now 84 years old, has just recorded it to coincide with and in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the peace agreement.
She has taught music all her life, still entertains at various events, sings in choirs and is musical director for the retired teacher’s singing group.
The recording was produced by Paddy Jordan and it is available to purchase in Zhivago Records, Charlie Bryne’s Bookshop and the Galway Cathedral Bookshop.
