Saw Doctors to rock Tuam this summer with reprise of West’s Awake concert

In 1991, on the crest of their wave, The Saw Doctors played an iconic concert in their hometown at Tuam Stadium that has stayed in the memory of their fans. In the interim, there have been many calls for the gig to be repeated — and finally it is going to happen.

The Saw Doctors will play the exclusive Irish ‘homecoming’ show in Tuam on Saturday August 19 in a Big Top marquee in the grounds of St. Jarlath’s College.

Tickets for the Tuam concert by The Saw Doctors, billed as ’The West’s Awake’, will go on sale tomorrow (Friday ) March 24 at 9am from Ticketmaster.ie After a five year break from touring, The Saw Doctors, who were recently quoted by European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, played a run of ‘comeback’ gigs in the UK last winter, selling out London Brixton Academy, Manchester Apollo and two concerts at the famous Glasgow Barrowland.

This summer The Saw Doctors will play Glastonbury Festival, headlining the Acoustic Stage on Friday June 23 as well as topping the bill at Wickham Festival in Hampshire in August and the Moseley Folk & Arts festival in Birmingham in September.

The Saw Doctors are led by song writers Davy Carton and Leo Moran who will be joined at the Tuam gig by former Waterboy Anthony Thistlethwaite on saxophone, Tuam singer Noelie McDonnell, Claremorris drummer Rickie O’ Neill and Headford musicians, Kieran Duddy on keyboards and William Merrigan on bass.

The Saw Doctors scored a surprise chart success when the vinyl release of the band’s debut album If This Is Rock And Roll, I Want My Old Job Back landed at No. 3 in the Irish Album charts in August 2021. The Saw Doctors debut album was first released in 1991, going straight to No.1 in the Irish Charts on the strength of hit singles such as‘I Useta Lover’, ’N17’, ‘Red Cortina’ and ‘Presentation Boarder’.
