Monroe’s Live Shortlisted for Prestigious IMRO Award

Galway’s Monroe’s Live on Dominick Street has been nominated for a prestigious IMRO award for best live music venue of the year. It has been selected amongst the top five venues in the region to be shortlisted for the award by over 18,000 members of the Irish Music Rights Organisation.

“We are absolutely delighted to be nominated for this award,” says owner Gary Monroe.

“We’ve won this award three times before and it is a credit to all our staff and customers to be shortlisted once again for 2023.

“Our commitment to live music, seven days a week, has stood the test of time. Our family started with the New Manhattan Bar in 1964 on this same corner of Dominick Street. John and Margaret Monroe introduced Galway to the first bar with table service with a dedicated ‘Ladies Lounge’ and a ‘Singing Lounge’. And we’ve continued the tradition of live music to this day.”

As a family-owned business, Monroes is firmly rooted in the live music scene. From the famous showbands of the 60s and 70s, to top musicians at home and abroad today, it’s the home of live music in Galway.

Venues considered for the IMRO award were assessed by Ireland's songwriters, composers and publishers on a number of criteria including general ambience, staging, sound, lighting, diversity of music, artist relations and venue promotion.

These awards acknowledge the central role that live music venues play in developing and supporting the music community in Ireland. The overall IMRO National Live Music Venue of the Year Award will be determined by an open public poll with the winners announced on March 14.
