Kenny Deery’s driving history is as varied and fast moving as his role as CEO of Galway Chamber. The champion of Galway business showed his real ambition with his first car, a maroon 95 G reg Ford Fiesta, a welcome sight on the roads of his native Achill Island.
As his career in banking progressed so did his taste in cars, progressing to a new Daewoo and then a series of SUVs. And as he admits with an eye roll and laugh ‘he got notions’ which was reflected in the purchase of a Mercedes.

When he sits into his the grey leather seats of his current car, a BMW 520 sport, the speakers will probably be humming with some classical music from Lyric FM (in the morning ) 2FM drive time, in the evening or it could be the latest release on Audiobooks, Kenny is a big fan of Spotify and Audible. Favourite Journey. You might think this Mayo man’s favourite journey would be the R319 which runs through his beloved Achill, not so. Like a lot of our neighbours he has fallen in love with his adopted county and claims the R336 from Maam to Leenaun is his favourite. “The beautiful scenery, empty road and no mobile phone signal,” put it top of Kenny’s list.
Favorite Passenger. Kenny’s apologies before giving his answer to this one. He’s very happy travelling solo, is easy going behind the wheel but is not a fan of nervous passengers.
Ideal Chauffeur. An ideal that he admits never entered his head, Kenny likes to be in control behind the wheel. So it’s a pass on the chauffeur.
