The Galway Sessions 2009

THE GALWAY Sessions, the city’s trad and folk festival, organised by Mick Crehan, takes place next week and will feature Mick Hanley, Ben Taylor, and Alec Finn.

The Sessions kicks off on Monday with Australian folk-rock band The Wishing Well at The Crane Bar at 9pm, while Ben Taylor, the singer-songwriter son of James Taylor, plays the Róisín Dubh, also at 9pm.

On Tuesday, leading Irish songwriter Mick Hanley plays The Crane at 9pm while on Wednesday, also in The Crane at 9pm, it’s Bohermore folk singer-songwriter Don Stiffe.

On Thursday 18, Tim Lyons, Eamon Brophy, John Connolly, Joe McDonagh, and Paul Moran will perform sean nós songs and songs in English at The Crane at 9pm.

Brian McGrath will launch his new album Pure Banjo (Gael Linn ) with guests Alec Finn and Johnny ‘Ringo’ McDonagh in The Crane on Friday 19 at 9pm.

On Saturday 20 Paul Moran will hold a sean nós workshop in The Crane from 11am to 1pm. At 3pm, the Kilfenora Ceili Band will play in the plaza outside the Galway City Museum and the public are encouraged to take part in the dancing. Sean Garvey and Alec Finn play The Crane at 6.30pm, while actress and singer Maria Doyle Kennedy plays the Róisín Dubh at 9pm.

On Sunday 21, Sean Ryan and Pat Conneely play The Crane at 1pm while Scotland’s Jim Malcolm plays there at 6.30pm. The Sessions come to a close with No Banjo in the Róisín Dubh at 9pm.
