Galway People of the Year - have your say now

Awards recognise outstandinng contribution to the community

Nominations for the Galway People of the year Awards are now being sought by the organising committee.

The awards, which were inaugurated in 1995, give public recognition to individuals and groups who through their personal leadership participation courage or achievements have made an outstanding contribution in their local communities at home or abroad.

The awards are now recognised as the highest accolade a person can receive in this county as every winner will be chosen by the people of Galway through a public nomination process and finalised by an independent adjudication panel

Over the years some of the winners were known the length and breadth of the country, many more were in the spotlight for the first time, but all had one thing in common, they were ordinary people who worked incredibly hard to enrich the lives of others and are role models for the next generation.

The committee is now asking members of the public to submit nominations - only those put forward by members of the public will be considered.

It could be an individual or a group, at home or abroad, who have brought joy and light to the lives of others, someone who has shown true strength and courage in the face of adversity, or those who have supported others in their darkest hour.

Individuals or groups can also be nominated for their contribution to the local community, enterprise and employment, arts, culture , charity work, leadership, sport or personal achievement.

The nomination process is simple. Forward the name of the individual or group to be nominated, the reason for doing so and any supporting material by March 1 by post to Ollie Robinson, Limehill, Tynagh, Loughrea, Co Galway or by email to [email protected]. Check out the Galway People of the year facebook page.

The 12 award winners will be announced at a reception in early March and presented with their awards at a Gala function in the Galway Bay Hotel on Friday April 21.

Proceeds from this years awards will be presented to a local charity Rosabell’s Rooms, co-founded by Dr Suzanne McClean in memory of her daughter Rosabell. A child loss project established in collaboration with the Irish Hospice Foundation, Rosabell’s Rooms provide direct financial and therapeutic support to families in the aftermath of child loss supporting any family who lose a child irrespective of the circumstances surrounding their death.
