With their latest single, Happy, due to be released in mid-March, alternative rock band Luna Sky are set to bring their raucous and punchy show to Monroe’s Live on March 10, as part of their Irish tour. With hard-hitting metal and grunge overtones, this dynamic trio from Meath are making waves on the music scene thanks to their powerful melodies and strong bass solos.
With indie-rock vocals that have been linked to Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain, lead guitarist and singer Greg Halford brings his wealth of experience to the band, having recorded, and produced acts such as gif, Strawberry Stew and Shrink Like Alice.
Joined by his sister Jess delving into the furious beat of the drums to create their forceful rhythm section, Luna Sky is an amalgamation of influences that first began with the formation of Red Riot in 2011.
Working together from a young age, the Halford siblings wrote unique compositions and embarked on their career as Red Riot over a decade ago. Raised on classic and alternative rock, they crossed paths with Keith Smith on bass to become Luna Sky.
As part of black metal band Horrenda, Keith’s prowess in the genre and passion for noise music is shaping their new direction as a trio. Thanks to this electric fusion of musical styles, Luna Sky are challenging the core of alternative rock since they first came together in 2018.
“Our music isn’t easily categorised,” explains Keith. “We move from heavily fizzed out rock, to quirky off beat synth-based bops, to reverb soaked anthems.”
Following the success of their debut single ‘Echoes’ in 2020 and EP ‘Not On The Radio’ in 2022, the band are amassing a strong following. As echoes of Razorlight and the Foo Fighters permeate their sound, they cite Audioslave, Muse and Converge amongst their favourite artists.
It’s set to be a feast of emerging Irish talent as Luna Sky are joined by six-piece Celtic punk rock band ‘Kettleboilers’, Galway post punk revival group ‘Punching Peaches’ and Cork’s ‘Little Known’ whose mission is to make feelgood music that resonates.
