Galway is to stage the second Irish Rhythm & Soul Weekend taking place at The Galway Bay Hotel on Friday March 3, Saturday March 4 and Sunday March 5.
The first Rhythm & Soul Weekend was held in Westport just before the pandemic and proved a resounding success, attracting an audience from all over Ireland and the UK.
Organiser, Paddy Shevlin, was encouraged to assemble a much bigger offering for the Galway event, which will be held over three rooms and will feature the appearance of legendary soul singer, Eddie Holman. ‘It’s been a real scoop to secure Eddie’s services’, said Paddy. ‘He really is one of the last old school Soul legends still performing.’
For Eddie himself, best known for his world-wide hit, ‘Hey There Lonely Girl’ in 1970, it will be a tick off his personal bucket list, for as Paddy says, ‘He told me that he had performed in 65 countries, but this will be his first appearance in Ireland.’ Eddie’s voice is like no other and has been described as ‘an astonishing precision instrument which can leap octaves with the speed of mercury and bend notes into shapes unimagined by lesser singers, it assures its possessor a place in soul history’ - Tony Cummings.
People can expect a weekend of non-stop Soul action with DJs from all over Ireland and the UK providing the best of Classic Soul, Motown, Northern Soul, R&B, Funk, Disco and Rare Groove.
