KILLANIN V BARNA:

(Sun 4.45pm – Pearse Stadium)

The reality is that neither of these teams will be going too far in the 2009 county championship. Nevertheless that won’t stop them trying their damndest to take one more step forward at least.

Killanin are not the team they were and were very unfortunate not to collect a county championship in the late 1990s. However, no club can replace the likes of Kevin Walsh, Finbar Thomas, Gary Fahy, and Richie Fahy easily.

Their new team is based around Stephen Kavanagh and Patrick Sweeney getting the scores up front with Cathal Sweeney and the Gibbones holding the enemy at bay in the defence. They could have beaten Glenamaddy the last day out, but they shot 11 wides and missed a few goal chances. Will they have learnt from those mistakes?

Barna looked poor against Moycullen, and unless Ray Conneely, Kieran Hanley, and DD Flaherty get some more support up front, they will be out of the championship by Sunday evening.

Calling a winner here is like flicking a coin. Heads = Killanin. Tails = Barna.

Heads it is.

Silke’s Prediction: Killanin
