Music for Galway presents Scottish/Japanese guitarist Sean Shibe

One of the most exciting, innovative and versatile guitarists today, Scottish/Japanese guitarist Sean Shibe is coming to the Kilcummin Church in Oughterard on Sunday March 5 at 8pm and to the Mick Lally Theatre in Galway on Monday March 6 at 8pm.

As part of Music for Galway’s Bach series, Sean Shibe presents a diverse programme that takes in the master’s Prelude, Fuge and Allegro BWV 998 as well as works by De Falla, Poulenc, the beautiful La Catedral by Barrios and the forceful and wild Habanera by Thomas Hades.

Award winning Shibe was the first guitarist ever to be selected for BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artists scheme, to be awarded a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship and, in 2018, to receive the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Young Artists. He has received two Gramophone Awards and an Opus Klassik. Impressively, he is also the 2022 recipient of the Leonard Bernstein Award.

Following very successful performances at a variety of summer festivals, Shibe performed his New York City solo recital debut at the 92nd Street Y which was followed by a tour in the US, with Quatuor Van Kuijk.

The Music for Galway Encore concerts are part of the organisation’s push towards sustainability. Through repeat performances, the impact of the artist is increased. This is an amazing opportunity to catch one of the greats in two local venues.

Tickets cost €20 / €18 concession. There is a reduced price for full-time students and school-going children of €6 and MfG Friends pay €16. To book, or find out about how to join as MfG Friend, visit www.musicforgalway.ie or phone 091 705962.

The performance in Oughterard is presented in association with the Galway County Council.
