Workshop on loss and grief

A workshop on loss and grief, which will take place in the city on Saturday February 25, will acknowledge that grief is not a straightforward process.

Admission to the event, which will be held at St Pio’s room in the Sacred Heart Church on Seamus Quirke Road from 10am to 12 noon, is €5.

The workshop is being organised by Pernet CLG, a local organisation which is committed to promoting education and relieving disadvantage and social exclusion.

The facilitator of the event, Jacinta Murphy, is a psychotherapist and a bereaved parent. She says the workshop will give those experiencing grief a safe, comfortable space to share their authentic experience with others on this journey.

The passage through grief can be full of “ups and downs”, she says and reminds people that they are not alone in their grief journey despite oftentimes feeling like they are.

People attending the event will be given a candle at the end of the workshop to take home and light in honour of their loved one.

A participant from a previous workshop spoke of the benefits of attending the event. “It was lovely to gather together in a soulful way and be present, for a little while, in each other’s journey.” Other feedback included: “Everyone attending shared their thoughts, emotions, and authentic experiences and this sharing I feel helped us all in our grief.”
