Stewart Construction shortlisted for Irish Construction Excellence Awards

Stewart Construction, Salthill, Galway has been named as a finalist for The Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE Awards ) for their stunning Central Plaza project in Dublin.

The Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE Awards ) provide an opportunity for the industry to showcase and reward best practice across the full range of construction disciplines and project categories. Stewart has been shortlisted under 2 categories – Commercial - over €60m and Fit Out or Refurbishment – over €30m.

The iconic landmark Central Plaza project (former Central Bank Headquarters ) on Dame St., Dublin was undertaken by Stewart Construction on a Construction Management basis, and completed to LEED Gold standard.

The original Central Bank building was designed by architect Sam Stephenson and construction was completed in 1978. The building design and construction methods displayed pioneering technical innovation.

Works by Stewart Construction included the refurbishment of the seven stories of offices contained in the Tower Building while the building’s exterior remained largely preserved, refurbishment and upgrade of the existing entrance foyer of the Tower Building, façade restoration including the over-cladding of the Macalloy structural suspension system.

In addition, and a major focal point of Central Plaza, a new plaza area was created with units for retail, cafes and restaurants at terrace, plaza and sub-plaza level, including a new glazed twin-lift core and reconfigure feature staircases.

The top-most level of the Tower, the crowning glory of Central Plaza, was re-imagined as a glass-roofed, split level hospitality space incorporating a 360° viewing terrace around the entire perimeter of the building, with a breath-taking view of Dublin’s city scape.

Also included in the overall development was works to the existing Annex and ‘Commercial Buildings’.

The winning projects will be announced at the ICE Awards 2023 Gala Event at the Convention Centre Dublin on 27 April 2023.
