Spring season has arrived at the Pálás, courtesy of Galway Film Society. The season, which begins on Sunday February 12, will include eight films, and will represent a range of new award-winning titles from across the globe.
The season will kick off with screenings of French comedy-drama The Rose Maker (La Fine Fleur ), a fun and charming crowd-pleaser starring Catherine Frot as an independent rose farmer who takes desperate measures to stay in business.
Other highlights include the Berlin Film Festival 2022 winner Alcarràs from Catalan director Carla Simón, whose previous debut, Summer 1993, was a hit with GFS members in 2018; beautiful Polish Oscar-contender EO, which follows one donkey as it travels across Europe; Jafar Panahi's latest film No Bears, completed shortly before his arrest in Iran last year; and the heart-warming Lunana: A Yak In The Classroom, Bhutan’s first-ever Academy Award nominee for Best International Feature.
In addition, there'll be two Irish short films featured - Small Hours, which will screen before Queen of Glory, and Baths, which will screen before The Gravedigger's Wife.
Opening screenings of The Rose Maker, on Sunday February 12 and Monday February 13, are aptly themed to coincide with Valentine's weekend and will include pre-film complimentary drinks receptions 45 minutes before screenings.
