Rare finds and treasures to be found at Galway Auction Rooms this weekend

Spring is here and auction season begins with Galway Auction Rooms first auction of the year and there is plenty to see with auctioneer Aidan Foley selling 1,000 lots over two days February 12 and 13, starting at 2pm both days.

Aidan has highlighted two interesting items that have been consigned to this auction - Firstly a fine pair of Howard Chairs. Howard chairs were first made back in the 1820s. These chairs were a very traditional armchair of the utmost elegance and comfort. Made with traditional coil springs and feather and down seat cushion as standard. Howard chairs are built to last and all in all a chair for reading, napping in and for investing in and passing down through the family.

Secondly there is a rare 1772 Captain Cook Coin/Medal, struck in 1772 and distributed during Cooks 2nd and 3rd voyages throughout the islands of the Pacific ocean, these medals are now exceedingly rare The Resolution and the Adventure appear on on side and the head of George III on the other. 2000 were struck in base metal (copper and brass ) and just over 100 in Silver. We have one of these Copper & Brass Coins for sale this weekend.

There is something for everyone in this sale from antique furniture, vintage, Persian rugs and carpets, home bar items, Irish Art including Madderson, Knuttel and many more great artists, books, Waterford, Royal Doulton, etc. The catalogue is online on www.irishcountryhome.com

Viewing takes place at Galway Auction Rooms, The Ranch, Kilcolgan this Friday and Saturday from 11am - 5pm.

The auction itself will be online Sunday and Monday 12/13 at 2pm each day.
