Claddagh Credit Union were delighted to reintroduce the Credit Union Schools Quiz in person for the first time since January 2020. Thirty-two teams, (128 students ) from a range of primary schools across the community, took place in the quiz in the Salthill Hotel, led by Quiz Master, Ronan Lardner of Galway Bay FM.
The teachers and parents were busy in the lead up to the event with lots of practice quizzes taking place in school and at home. Lisa Stewart of Claddagh Credit Union said “It is great to have the quiz back again. The excitement from the children tonight is sky high. I still hear adults talking about when they took part in the credit union schools quiz when they were children so we hope the quiz tonight will be a great experience for this year’s participants.”
The quiz is divided into two sections: Competition A: Under 11 - for entrants aged 10 or younger and Competition B: Under 13 - for entrants aged 12 or younger. Competition A was won by Knocknacarra Educate Together National School and Competition B was won by St. Annins National School. The winning teams now progress to the regional level of the quiz where they will compete against other credit union level winning teams from across Galway County.
From there the winners of the regional level will progress to the national level. The winning teams at the national finals will receive €1,250 per school, with the runner up teams in each category receiving €750 for their schools, adding up to a fantastic prize fund of €4,000. Everyone in Claddagh Credit Union sends their thanks to the schools for taking part and wishes them the best of luck
