Galway Game Jam Announce Two February Events

Galway Game Jam is a volunteer-led organisation who support the local game development scene by providing regular game jams and events that encourage experimentation, collaboration and facilitating the game making community to connect. Anyone with an interest in making games, no matter their experience, is welcome to join a game jam to meet like-minded folks and make games.

This weekend, from Friday February 3, is the annual Global Game Jam. The Galway jam-site begins at 6pm on Friday the 3rd, and runs until 6pm on Sunday February 5.

Join thousands of people worldwide in one of the most significant game jams of the year, and make your own game inspired by the Global Game Jam Theme. Galway has hosted this annual event since 2015, which is currently run by the Galway Game Jam community (who are celebrating their 10 year anniversary this March ).

Game jams are about experimenting, connecting with people, collaborating and creating. What do you need to make a game at a game jam? Yourself, some time, and some tools. Galway Game Jam will provide space, support, food, and drinks. You can make computer games or board games. The volunteer team will assist in team formation and general queries - you can email the team at [email protected]. Galway Game Jam will host a live stream in collaboration with other jam-sites across the island of Ireland, featuring talks from game developers, interviews with jammers, live development and more.

Later in the month, on Thursday February 23, the Fís Games Summit will takes place. This intimate game industry conference features industry veteran speakers from around the world. Speakers include Dana Nightingale, Campaign Director at Arkane Lyon (Deathloop, Dishonored ) and Josh Sawyer, Studio Design Director at Obsidian Entertainment (Pentiment, Pillars of Eternity ). Fís Games Summit is organised and run by Ardán. Check out www.ardan.ie for more details.
