The cultural music heritage linking Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man comes to life through talented trad band Ímar, who are bringing the raw and powerful sound of ancient Gaelic infused melodies to Monroe’s Live on Thursday, March 2. Together, the multi award-winning band members ignite a fusion of history, identity and connection with their energetic performances and electric style.
The synergy created by the five-piece on stage is unparalleled, thanks to the bond formed between them as teenagers, when they first crossed paths at Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. As a result, their unbridled passion for the traditional genre comes to the fore. This solid foundation in Irish music and song has followed them throughout their careers.
Ímar comprises of current and former members of the bands Mànran, Mec Lir, RURA and Talisk. By reviving scores in their original form, they breathe new life into songs that define our past. From the Isle of Man to Glasgow and Cork, the group’s breath-taking delivery is founded on a true respect for the traditional sound that unites them.
The combination of bodhrán player Adam Brown, originally from Suffolk, Cork-born uilleann piper, flautist and whistle player Ryan Murphy, fiddler Tomás Callister and bouzouki ace Adam Rhodes - both from the Isle of Man - and Glasgow native Mohsen Amini on concertina celebrates the spirit of a music session in full flight.
Their commitment is such that every member has a host of solo awards recognising their lifelong dedication to their instruments. Now, their shared zeal is set to captivate a west of Ireland audience at Monroe’s Live on Thursday, March 2 from 8pm. Tickets cost €20 and are available from www.monroes.ie
