The Irish Association of Youth Orchestras (IAYO ) is delighted to return to the National Concert Hall on Saturday, February 11, for their Annual Festival of Youth Orchestras.
This annual celebration of Irish youth orchestras, and their talented members, features a great variety of music played by young people, for young people, from all over the country. There are two concerts on the day - one at 2.20pm and one at 7pm - featuring classics such as The 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky, Dance of the Tumblers by Rimsky-Korsakov, music from the movies like Gabriel's Oboe, pop and rock classics from Abba and The Rolling Stones, and original compositions from Irish composers.
Fidil, under the baton of Hugh Kelly, will be representing Galway this year. Fidil was formed a number of years back at the behest of a local politician who had a group of children visiting from Hong Kong and wanted them to play with local musicians. Such was the success of that project that the group continued to play and perform together and have gone from strength to strength. They are all incredibly excited to be performing on the stage of the National Concert Hall, a once in a lifetime opportunity for many.
