Lights up for new recruits at Blue Teapot

Blue Teapot Theatre Company’s Performing Arts School is taking applications for September 2023. This is an opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities, who are aged 18 and over, to access formal training.

This unique three-year programme leads to certification in QQI Levels 2 and 3. Modules include drama, music, drawing, costume, design, and event participation. The programme also incorporates life skills training that includes interpersonal skills, online safety, and health and fitness. Literacy and IT supports are provided by Galway Adult Basic Education Services. The tutors are some of Galway’s leading professional theatre and arts practitioners.

The school is a creative and fun environment where learners can fulfil their artistic potential. The key objectives are to develop each learner through educational, personal, and social development characterised by inclusion, respect, and creativity. Drama tutor and theatre director Rod Goodall remarked: “To be trained in the arts - drama, dance, music, etc - does not mean that the student will achieve a career in these disciplines. It means that they will enjoy more creativity, more confidence, and be better equipped for social interactions in their lives.”

The Performing Arts School has a dedicated building based in Munster Avenue, Galway. Recruitment is done annually, but places are limited.

The deadline for applications is February 3 at 5pm. For further information or to request a brochure visit www.blueteapot.ie, email [email protected], or contact 087 652 0146.
