A team made up of both Claddagh Choral and MÓC 2 are embarking on a ten-day research trip this month to Japan, to explore opportunities for a tour for Galway City Chamber Choir later this year.
The exploration group, consisting of producer Kate McBrearty, Stephen Carroll, Micheál Ó Ciaraidh and Ellie Diamond, will Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagano, Nagoya, Hiroshima and Matsue and will meet with high profile Japanese choirs, directors and composers as well as Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Éireann Japan (CCÉ Japan ). During the visit, the group will also meet with the Irish ambassador to Japan, Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce and more.
The ambitious tour is the result of months of hard work and while it is in the early stages, it is a major development for the project. A trip like this will kickstart the careers of many young, Galway based musicians while exhibiting the best of Irish music and talent which has made its way around the world in the last half century. The trip will coincide with the graduation of the first group of University of Galway music students.
