Welcome boost to Galway housing supply

New home seekers in Galway will be pleased to learn that local company Burkeway Homes will shortly commence building more than 200 homes in developments at Letteragh Road and Barna village. This news is especially welcome at this time when there are not enough homes to meet the demands of our expanding population and changing demographics.

Housing is an essential component of the Galway 2040 plan as set by the Government which aims to increase Galway city’s population by 50 per cent, or 40,000 people, in that timeframe. Strong local businesses investing in the economy will provide jobs and much needed infrastructure that will help the city deliver on its ambitions. The building of 200 new homes is a massive investment in the local economy through employment in construction and professional services, purchase of materials, and subcontractors.

These two new housing developments will offer homes with a range of choice in size, type, and location to meet most of the market needs. There will be two bed apartments, three and four bed semidetached and terraced homes, as well as four and five bed detached homes. Both locations in city and county are well serviced and convenient. Burkeway Homes has a reputation for providing high quality, well designed, homes and is in the latter stages of its current developments at Fanan and The Blake, Letteragh Road, which comprises 101 houses and apartments.

Michael Burke, managing director of Burkeway Homes, said: “We are delighted to be starting these projects, they will keep our construction team busy. We are particularly happy that we will be able to supply much needed accommodation and homes and, in the process, provide many jobs in the construction sector for both Galway city and county.”

Preparation works are ongoing on both sites at Letteragh Road and Barna and construction will progress quickly from January 2023.
