DRIVING HISTORY

Where we take a journey through someone’s driving past

Mary Nash CEO of Galway Hospice is the driver of a Volvo C40, the burgundy hatch still looks good for a 151. It’s the latest in a long line of motors owned by the Limerick native. Her first being a Rover, automatic recommended by her brother The Mechanic. The wild Rover only lasted 18 months and was replaced by a little black Toyota Corolla ‘Betsy’

So what Soundtrack plays while she travels the Country? — ‘The Three Tenors, Andrea Bocelli, I crank it up, and get lost in the music’ Mary confesses.

Ideal Journey? — ‘Always the trip home’ Mary says, ‘west Limerick,’ emphasising the West.

Perfect Passenger — Mary ponders the options for a moment, runs through her selection requirements before declaring Jeremy Paxman, but then she has a change of mind and dumps Paxman for Browne, Vincent Browne. He would offer great conversation and he’s from Limerick, she laughs.

Dream Chauffeur. — If it’s not Pavarotti, Bocelli or Browne, Mary prefers a solo journey, liking the silence to reflect on work and life as she drives. She passes on the chauffeur option.

Lotto Win Car. — Happy with the comfort and size of the Volvo C40, Mary does not harbor ambition of splashing out on something big and bold if she hits the jackpot. ‘A small Jaguar would be nice’ she says with a cheeky grin, or something electric,

The Galway Hospice Tree of Lights Celebration at the Galway Memorial Tree takes place at Galway Hospice on Sunday, December 4 at 5pm
