Fresh from playing at Electric Picnic and releasing their debut EP, Big Sleep are on their way to Monroe’s Live as part of their Ireland and UK tour on Saturday, November 19. Already, their indie-alternative vibes are making waves on the Irish music scene, thanks to the meeting of music minds between Dubliner Rónán Connolly and Italian-born Matteo Poli.
The Big Sleep style is a fusion of classic rock with indie, funk, and a dash of R&B. Not only have they sold out shows in Whelans and Bellobar, but they are becoming a tour-de-force on the international stage following a successful stint at La Cairola in Rome. It’s fun, with fervour, and a touch of light-hearted banter.
Starting out on the traditional path of busking, charity gigs and battle of the bands, Big Sleep gained a solid reputation for their energetic live performance. Since then, they are garnering a strong fanbase thanks to their melody driven originals.
Their feelgood and playful debut EP ‘Feeling Something Someday’ has garage rock influences with catchy pop soundscapes. Their guitar riffs and driving drumbeats have a Joy Division meets Jamiroquai air, as Connolly’s vocals steer from humour to nostalgia, weaving in references to their Dublin hometown.
With lyrical tales ranging from unrequited love to stormy relationships, Big Sleep are cheeky, feisty, and determined to take their music to new heights. Catch them on their way up at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, November 19 at 8pm with support from Smythy.
