Castlegar were crowned Fr Lawless Cup Champions on Saturday in Castlegar when they overcame St Dominic's from Roscommon by 2-10 to 3-4 in a titanic battle.
Castlegar, missing six of their starting team from the county final, had to come from behind with a strong finish to ensure they secured another title this year.
St Dominic's enjoyed a dream start when Niamh Fitzgerald struck a goal as Castlegar struggled to get the ball past their half forward line. However Chloe Broderick delivered a well-taken opening point, which was followed with a super goal from Galway U16 star Caoimhe Callanan.
St Dominic's replied almost immediately with a Niamh Watson goal before Callanan, from play, and Broderick, through a free replied with points for Castlegar.
However St Dominic's Fitzgerald struck again before Eva Concannon in the Castlegar goal pulled off a fantastic one-on-one save as the Roscommon attacker looked to goal again, but had to settle for a free for a 3-1 to 1-3 half-time lead.
Castlegar, however, found their form with Broderick striking her first free before Callanan struck her second goal to leave the sides deadlocked within two minutes of the restart.
The two sides continued to exchange points before Castlegar found their finishing form, delivering four unanswered points through Broderick, Callanan and Louise Mahoney to secure the victory.
They now head into their AIB All Ireland Intermediate Club Championship - a crown they won 10 years ago, and first up is the semi-final on the weekend of December 10/11 against the winners of the Leinster Intermediate Club Championship.
