Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin in conversation with Doireann Ní Ghríofa at Kennys

In celebration of the recognition by the EU Prize for Literature 2022 of his novel Madame Lazare, a free event will take place at Kennys Bookshop next Friday, November 18th, when Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin will be joined in conversation by Doireann ní Ghríofa.

All are welcome to come along - the conversation will be bilingual featuring Gaeilge agus Beárla, so is suitable for people of all levels of Irish.

Madame Lazare is the first Irish-language novel to ever be nominated for the EU Prize for Literature award, and was one of five special recognitions this year which were distinguished for their ‘literary achievements and potential to cross borders.’

The book tells the story of Levana, a girl of Jewish heritage whose grandmother, Hana Lazare fled the Nazi invasion from her homeland in Northern Europe as a child and survived. As her grandmother ages, Levana finds herself on a trail from Paris to Brussels and the west coast of Ireland to discover the true story behind her grandmother’s hidden life.

Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin is an award-winning author of books, screenplays and songs, a publisher and musician, and predominantly writes as Gaeilge. Doireann Ní Ghríofa is a bilingual writer and the author of six books of poetry and ‘A Ghost in the Throat’, which won the Book of the Year at the 2020 Irish Book Awards.

Drinks will be served at the event and copies of Madame Lazare will be available.

The event is free, but booking is advised. Tickets are available by ringing Kennys Bookshop on 091-709350, or you can book online here: https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/tadhg-mac-dhonnagain-in-conversation-with-doireann-ni-ghriofa-at-kennys-tickets-443967868847
