Whether you’re winging it when it comes to wine, or a wannabe sommelier, a new wine tasting package from The Twelve in Barna will bring you up to speed on choosing and appreciating wines for all occasions.
To celebrate the hotel’s latest accolade — a prestigious Wine Spectator Award of Excellence no less — The Twelve is offering a special wine package comprising a two night stay and a special wine tutorial with five course meal at the hotel’s award-winning West restaurant. If you want to pick up some handy tips on selecting the perfect wine to see you through dinner or you’re keen to build on your existing knowledge of a particular grape, there’s a lot to be learned at The Twelve. Bring a loved one or even make it a group event!
Your special tutorial evening will begin with a comprehensive 45 minute wine tasting with top sommelier and general manager Fergus O’Halloran. Passionate about both food and wine, Fergus graduated as Canada’s top sommelier in 1997 from the International Sommelier Guild of Canada, and is famous for his wine pairings, suiting a particular mood or just to complement food. Fergus will familiarise guests with the West restaurant’s impressive wine list which is uniquely designed under wine style headings, with detailed tasting notes and amusing quotations. Fergus will then educate guests on the perfect accompaniments to suit the sumptuous five course tasting menu which includes a wonderful Donna Rosa Albariño wine with fresh seared brill, a Stonefish Verdelho to compliment the freshest Galway crab, and the most amazing Champagne sorbet, all prepared by French born head chef Cedric Bottarlini. Expect simple, fresh food with a gastronomic twist!
The Twelve’s celebratory wine package includes two nights’ bed and breakfast in one of the luxury suites which feature a separate living area with a uniquely designed cocktail bar, mood enhancing lighting, and the hotel’s legendary chic design. This package is available for just €460 per couple sharing. Bookings for this package can only be made for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday with tutored wine tasting available on the Thursday night.
