Citroen has revealed full details of its new C5 X model which marks a long-awaited return to the D-segment for the marque.

On sale from €36,990, the C5 X will be offered in a choice of petrol and plug-in hybrid versions with first models now available to test drive for the upcoming 231-registration period.

The petrol offering for the C5 X introduces a 1.2 litre Puretech 130hp engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the C5 X will also arrive in a 1.6 litre Puretech 180hp engine also featuring an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The plug-in hybrid version features a 1.6 litre petrol engine paired with an 80kW electric motor to deliver a combined power output of 225hp.

The 13.2kWh battery offers a possible driving range of 55km in 100 per cent electric mode. This version also includes handy features such as delayed charging and cabin pre-conditioning via the MyCitroen app.

A full charge can be completed in two hours using a wall box connection, according to Citroen.

Four trim levels are offered: The entry Feel model, increasing to a Feel Pack, Flair and the range-topping Flair Pack.

The Feel model comes well equipped boasting a 10 inch touchscreen with MyCitroen Play and keyless entry and start, while Feel Pack introduces the hybrid versions with new Citroen Advanced Comfort Active Suspension.

On the outside, the CX 5’s front end sports the V-shaped lighting signature represented in Citroen’s current range, while the LED headlights and daytime running lights feature a unique lighting signature. The extended bonnet, the high belt line, and the rear wheel flare give it distinction, dynamism and sturdiness; all part of the shape language of Citroen’s larger vehicles.

Its 19 inch Aero X alloy wheel rims have glossy black aerodynamic inserts that create a turbine effect to guide the airflow, reducing aerodynamic drag and so minimising fuel consumption.

The new C5 X will be available in six different colour options, with Amazonite Grey being introduced to the palette.

Inside, the uncluttered horizontal dashboard provides an open driving space. The generous and welcoming space in the back offers comfortable width and generous headroom to ensure rear passengers are seated comfortably and can enjoy their journey.

Brightness on board the C5 X is enhanced by the 360-degree windows around the car, including rear quarter panel windows. To further enhance on-board comfort and make travelling in the C5 X PHEV as relaxing as possible, particular attention has been paid to acoustics, with laminated front and rear windows providing insulation from outside noise.

The 10 inch touchscreen introduces the new fully customisable MyCitroen Drive Plus infotainment system that has a natural voice recognition allowing the driver to interact easily with the vehicle.

The screen size increases to 12 inches from the Flair trim level. As well as the seven-inch digital driver display, the extended head-up display in front of the driver projects important driving information onto the windscreen, including navigation, to ensure the driver’s eyes stay on the road at all times.
