The pharmacy retail counter assistant course has been running for 20 years at the GRETB Training Centre in Mervue, Galway. The course regularly provides staff to pharmacies in both full and part time positions as pharmacy assistants, cosmetic sales assistants, and pharmacy managers. Over 80 per cent of course graduates have secured employment in pharmacies.
This course will give you extensive knowledge of over the counter (OTC ) medicines and a 10 week full time placement in a pharmacy where you will work as part of a pharmacy team which gives invaluable experience of the job and may also offer an opportunity to pursue a pharmacy technician qualification in the future.
The job involves having a role in the front-end of pharmacies, interacting with people and helping with their prescriptions, giving advice on over-the-counter medicines, advising on beauty and make-up products, and healthcare products. There are many new job opportunities in the expanding retail pharmacy sector, and with these qualifications, you would be in a good position to gain full-time employment and advance your career.

The course is non-fee paying, is full time, and students spend 30 weeks training followed by 10 weeks working full time in a pharmacy.
