Oh Happy Day! Calasanctius College Musical returns with 'Sister Act — the Musical'

Students of Calasanctius college are ‘Joyful Joyful’ with the return of the school musical after a three year break due to the pandemic, with the countdown to curtain call of ‘Sister Act,’ a musical we are familiar with which stars Whoopi Goldberg.

The show begins with a matinee for local primary school students on Tuesday October 25 and Opening night at Wednesday 24 and runs for three nights.

Tickets €18 for adults and €10 for students can be booked through the school reception or online at www.calasanctiuscollege.ie Rehearsals are well underway with first years to leaving cert students seizing the opportunity to take part in the cast, chorus, crew, backstage and front of house under the direction of Caroline Cawley and Hannah Wright and teachers Niall Loftus and Deirdre De Burca (co-producers )

Mr Wall, art teacher is guiding a busy crew with the design, build and painting of the set.

After a three year hiatus due to Covid restrictions, the production team are pleased to be back in action again with the musical.

"This school has a long tradition of presenting an annual musical, students benefit hugely from taking part, discovering their talents and gaining in confidence greatly through this extra-curricular activity.

"It is a great night out for all the family, aunties, uncles and grandparents often make a special effort to be in the audience along with the proud parents," commented Córa Ní Loinsigh, Principal Calasanctius College, Oranmore.

Charlotte O’Grady has been cast in the principal role of Doloris Van Cartier, Éabha Kelly as Mother Superior and Sarah O’Dowd as Sister Mary Robert. Oskar Sokol will fill the role of Monsignor Howard and taking the habit as Sisters for the show are Mary O’Dowd as Sr. Mary Patrick, Amy Duffy as Sr. Mary Lazarus, Katie Scully as Sr. Mary Celeste, Grace Flaherty as Sr. Mary Martin of Tours, Juliette Farrelly as Mary Irene, Saibhie Harkin as Sr. Mary Stephen and Maria McClusker as Sr. Mary Theresa.

The cops are played by Lucas Lamounier and Roan Downes who will come up against gangsters played by Colm Marnell as Curtis Jackson, Aaron Neary as Pablo, Roan Downes as Ernie/ TV Presenter; Oisín Neary as Joey and Calin Burke as TJ.

All in all fifty two students will take to the stage with a back stage crew of over twenty five.

There will be just four on-stage performances in Nano Nagle Hall in Calasanctius College which will begin with a special matinee show for the students of local primary schools on Tuesday October 25, so tickets are sure to sell out fast.
