Free talk on Ireland’s housing crisis at Kennys Bookshop tomorrow

Tomorrow (Friday ) evening, a free talk on Ireland’s Housing Crisis will take place at Kennys Bookshop in Liosbán as Rory Hearne, housing expert and author of Gaffs: Why no one can buy a house, and what we can do about it will be joined in conversation by Karen Feeney, Head of Client Services at Galway Simon Community. It will take place at 6pm and all are welcome.

Rory and Karen will discuss Ireland’s housing policy and how it is affecting a new generation who are finding themselves locked out of the housing market, and what we should do about it. Many millennials are finding themselves trapped in a game of rental roulette, stuck living at home as adults, and many are on the brink of homelessness. In his new book Gaffs, which just been published, Rory urges us to think about the people behind the statistics and shows us that there is a way towards a future where everyone has access to a home.

Rory Hearne is an Assistant Professor of Social Policy in Maynooth University, specialising in housing policy and housing rights. He makes regular appearances on national TV and radio as an expert on Ireland’s housing policy, including Prime Time, The Brendan O’Connor Show, and The Blindboy Podcast. He has written articles for TheJournal.ie and The Irish Examiner. He is the author of Housing Shock: The Irish Housing Crisis and How to Solve It (2020 ).

Karen Feeney is the Head of Client Services at Galway Simon Community. Galway Simon are a leading provider of homeless and homelessness prevention services in the region, and are relentlessly committed to finding answers to the questions faced by real people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness.

The event will take place at Kennys Bookshop, Liosbán this Friday, October 14 at 6pm.
