Inis Mór musician Padraig Jack, who recently toured with traditional folk legend Damien Dempsey, will bring his Celtic and contemporary stylings to Monroe’s Live this Friday, October 7th for Rock Against Homelessness – a special gig to raise funds for Focus Ireland.
Padraig’s debut album, Making Sand, received critical acclaim and the bilingual singer songwriter has recently released his latest single, It’s Alright Now.
Having worked with the likes of the world-renowned Sharon Shannon, Padraig is passionate about his lyrics, bringing a modern voice to Irish song. With influences ranging from James Taylor to the Eagles, Padraig’s clear vocals speak for a generation – in both Irish and English. For Padraig, Focus Ireland is a cause close to his heart. He was inspired to write his song ‘Streetbed Ridden’ for those suffering from the mental health impact of homelessness.
“So many are without housing,” he says, “and so many more are a rent increase or missed pay cheque away from losing the roof over their head. I feel lucky to have never experienced being homeless. I think it's important that we continue to support organisations like Focus Ireland, who are working tirelessly to ensure fewer people are living on the streets.”
For Peter O’Sullivan of Monroe’s Live, Rock Against Homelessness is an important opportunity for the Galway community to raise vital funds for Focus Ireland.
“We are delighted to be involved with such an amazing charity,” says Peter, “and to have a talented local artist on the main stage as part of the event. Padraig Jack has achieved so much in recent years, and we are looking forward to hosting Rock Against Homelessness this Friday.”
Tickets cost €15 and are available from www.monroes.ie Doors open at 7pm on Friday, October 7th.
