For the first time in three years, Merlin College will host an in-person open night for all sixth class students and their parents/guardians on Monday October 3 between 7.30pm and 9.30pm. The school, which is celebrating its 10th year in Doughiska, on the east of the city, will again give an opportunity to parents and their children to see all that the school has to offer.
Although the school boasts all the mod cons that every newly built school has to offer, it is hoped that those visiting the school on the open night will grow in appreciation of what the school represents and how its ethos is firmly based on the development of the child - friendliness, kindness, encouragement, and confidence giving. Academic success is a given and relative, as always, to your child's needs.
In its 10-year history the school has made a large impact in the world of national athletics, winning many all-Irelands, 'A' League Connacht soccer, All-Ireland Basketball Championships, and has had National Enterprise Winners and regional and national winners in competitions in the area of green studies and the environment, among other achievements. Always evolving, the school in recent years has also developed a Marvel Club, Dungeons and Dragons Club, and a very active Art Club that exhibits bi-annually. All of these extracurricular activities bed in well with those established from the beginning, such as Gaelic football and hurling, camogie, BT Young Scientist, development studies, and Junior Achievement.
Unfortunately, there are only 120 places available, so it will be necessary to enroll within the official time frame, as per the admissions notice which can be viewed on the school's website www.merlincollege.ie
