Local gardai promote use of Garda Property App to help keep property safe

An Garda Síochána has launched a new app designed to keep personal property safe and help with theft investigations.

The Garda Síochána Property App allows people to index and record personal property such as bicycles, electronics, farm machinery, and jewellery and report stolen items to gardaí online. It allows users to photograph property, record receipts, store registration codes, and photograph markings on their items.

Once you download the app, you can safely record your personal information in the app and begin to record your property. Any information entered into the app is stored on your own device or backed up to your cloud account, leaving you in charge of your own data at all times. The app also has the facility to report the theft to An Garda Síochána if a recorded item is stolen.

Property that is clearly marked is less attractive to a thief as it is more difficult to sell on. It is also important to keeping a record of personal belongings, especially receipts and serial numbers.

The Garda Síochána Property App is completely standalone and can be downloaded for free on Google Play Store, the Apple Store, or from the Garda website www.garda.ie
