Claddagh Credit Union were delighted to support local again by making a donation to the Galway Hooker Sailing Club for their recent trip to the Netherlands with Loveen, a 98 year old Galway Hooker.
The Loveen and crew took part in Nawaka, the National Water Camp Festival based near Zeewolde. The crew from the Galway Hooker Sailing Club joined 27 scouts and 10 leaders from the Port of Galway Sea Scouts who represented Ireland at this event.
The camp runs every four years, attracting over 7,000 international Sea Scouts and is aimed at children aged from 12 to 17 years old.
Loveen hosted many sails during her 10 days to give children and scout leaders from other countries the experience of sailing on a Galway Hooker, and learn about the history of this traditional boat and her important place in the maritime history of Galway.
Loveen was a big hit during the camp, and the club is already planning her return trip in 2026.
