Discover the countryside with Cumann Siúl Cois Coiribe - Corribside Hillwalking Club

Cumann Siúl Cois Coiribe - Corribside Hillwalking Club was set up in 1999 to enjoy the hills of Clare, Galway, and Mayo.

The club gets together at least every second Sunday, come rain, hail, or shine. Living in the west of Ireland means that the weather can be unpredictable, so members rely on good waterproofs to prevent soggy sandwiches.

Walks are graded and the group decides together which walks are planned for the term ahead, with skilled leaders who volunteer to guide the walks.

The club sometimes arranges walks further afield in Ireland and abroad, and recently completed the highest peaks in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England. This took longer than expected due to Covid restrictions, but they got there in the end.

There are also opportunities within the club to upskill in areas including outdoor first aid, map reading, mountain skills, etc.

The group are members of Mountaineering Ireland, with access to a good support network and valuable information to enjoy the hills in a safe and sustainable manner. The club follows a ‘leave no trace’ policy.

Being part of a group is a great way to explore areas of the countryside you may not venture into on your own, with the added advantage of making new friends along the way.

New members are always welcome. An open evening will take place on Wednesday September 28 at 8pm in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway. Go along and find out more or find it on Facebook at “Cumann Siúil Chois Coiribe”.
