Open evening at Galway Hospice

An open evening will take place at Galway Hospice on Wednesday next September 14. The hospice team are inviting people from across Galway to pop in for a cup of tea and a chat about the work that the hospice does in our local community. The evening will give people an opportunity to meet the team at the hospice and to ask questions about hospice and palliative care.

The Open Evening is for anyone who has an interest or a curiosity in the work that Galway Hospice does. Palliative Care Week runs from 11-17 September. This year’s theme is Palliative Care: Living as Well as Possible. Palliative Care Week aims to raise awareness of the difference palliative care can make to people with life-limiting conditions, carers and families throughout the island of Ireland.

The open evening will give people the opportunity to find out exactly what Galway Hospice does for our community. We provide support at home, in a nursing home, in hospital, or in the hospice – depending on what each person needs and wants.

On the evening there will be staff members there from a wide range of services and therapies including our Inpatient Unit, Community Team, Therapists, Social Work, to name just a few.

People can receive palliative care services for many years – not just in their last weeks or days of life. Palliative care is an approach that looks at much more than medical need. It is about achieving the best possible quality of life for people with serious illness by caring for all aspects of the person – emotional, physical and spiritual. Galway Hospice offer a range of supports and services to people who are caring for someone living with advanced illness, as well as services for people who are bereaved.

If you are interested in attending please email [email protected] or just come along to Galway Hospice, Renmore between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday 14th September, where you’ll be made welcome.
