Ballybane Barber nominated for ‘Scotland’s Best Barber’ award

Ballybane native Peter Healy has been nominated for Scotland’s Best Barber & Best Male Stylist in this years Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards.

Healy, whose love for barbering began in 2016, when he would convince his friends to sit for haircuts claiming he “knew what he was doing” and the passion began from there. Initially training in Ballybrit’s Celtic Hair College after completing his leaving cert, Healy took the basics he had learned there to Crew Street Barbers on Shop St. and later Headmaster’s in Doughiska.

Moving to Dundee with his girlfriend in 2020, Healy stopped by Hard Grind for a haircut as it was well-known shop within the industry and “one thing led to another” and he was offered a job.

Speaking about his career, Healy stated, “Barbering was never just a job for me, as I enjoy it so much, and I am always striving to be better than I was the day before. My boss suggested for me to enter the Scottish Hair and Beauty awards back in March this year and I was voted into the final. I did my first live on-stage haircut this year at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow at a Scottish Hair and Beauty show which was an amazing experience.”

For Healy, the nomination feels “unreal,” and is something he has “wanted to achieve since I moved over along with doing shows and getting my name out there in the hair industry.”

Regardless of whether he wins or loses, Healy will be celebrating being nominated saying, “being in the finals itself is a massive achievement and regardless of whether I win or not this is just the beginning for me. I am hoping to continue to do more shows and get more experiences like these behind me.”

The Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards will take place on September 11 in Glasgow.
