The next intake of An Mheitheal Rothar’s Local Training Initiative in Cycle Mechanics will run from 10 October. Participants will earn a City & Guilds award in Cycle Mechanics, as well as practical work experience.
“The course includes all the hands on skills you need to become a cycle mechanic. You’ll learn about gears, brakes, wheels: the whole range of skills. There will be work experience as well, to get some practical knowledge of what it's like to work in the bike industry.” explains course coordinator Pat Connolly.
This full time course, supported by the Galway Roscommon Education & Training Board, will take place in the dedicated Training Centre in Liosban. The course runs for five months and includes a work placement.
“It’s a great time to learn cycle repair skills.The industry is growing, with more people cycling as the cost of fuel rises. More bikes means more need for people with the right skills to repair and maintain them.”
