Getting involved and staying connected at Croí na Gaillimhe

Croí na Gaillimhe provides a weekly programme of affordable activities to meet the needs of all age groups. Whether you wish to develop a new interest or build on an existing one Croí na Gaillimhe is likely to have different opportunities to support you. Such as: lunch and social club, computer training, art, and crafts, sewing, intergenerational programme and adult learning classes.

For the older adult they encourage active aging by providing: Lunch and Social Club for Older People: €10 – two course lunch + Bingo / Activities. The club meets on Monday and Wednesdays 1pm - 3.30pm. Lunch is served from 1pm – 2pm, delicious hot meals with all dietary needs catered for. Following the lunch club, the social club offers a variety of activities from bingo to floor games, musical afternoons, collaborative arts projects, chair exercise and whatever they can do to serve the interest of their participants. Lunch and social clubs are open to all older people in Galway City and County, numbers permitting.

CLASSES: NB: Croí na Gaillimhe will confirm dates for classes after the registration day which takes place on Tuesday 13th of September for 10.00am -12.00pm.

Chair Yoga: This gentle, yet effective class provides a complete practice for strengthening the whole body, while seated safely in a chair. The class finishes with relaxing mediation. This class will recommence on Tuesday mornings 10.30am - 11.15am.

Beginners Art: Classes recommence in September 10am–11.40am. Croí na Gaillimhe are also offering an Improvers Art Class. They have a limited number of spaces, there is a need to register, and it will be on a ‘first come first served basis.’

Crafting: The craft class involves: Card making, wood craft, decoupage and seasonal craft are all on offer under the supportive and encourage teaching style of Rose. Beginners are most welcome. Classes recommence Monday morning 9.45am– 11.45am.

Digital Skills: If you would like to obtain some practical training in using your Tablet and/or Smartphone, the friendly team of volunteer tutors can help you. It is important for older people who wish to live independently and age at home to use these technologies to their advantage to stay in touch with family, friends and their wider community. Classes recommence on Tuesday mornings 10.00am -12.00am.

Scrabble: A recent addition to activities is a Scrabble Club. If you like word games, ‘why not come along’ and enjoy the challenge, in addition to a cup of tea/coffee and good banter!! Classes recommence on Tuesday mornings (10.30am – 1pm. New member most welcome.

Young Hearts – Intergenerational Programme: This involves younger and older people working together during the academic year on a Tuesday Morning from 10.30 – 12.30p.m. The programme covers: storytelling, music, astronomy, art, trip to Birr and much more. The objective is to increase intergenerational communications. Croí na Gaillimhe is looking for older people to participate, please come along to registration day.
