Galway's Indian community is set to celebrate the 76th Indian Independence Day on Saturday.
The Indian Cultural and Sports Community Galway will get together between 3pm and 7pm at Coláiste Muire Máthair (formerly St Mary college ) to enjoy an afternoon of fun-filled activities symbolising the diversity of the Indian culture and languages.
This event will be attended by the Ambassador of India in Dublin, Akhilesh Mishra.
During this event the Indian Ambassador will address the ICSC members on the importance of the Independence Day celebrations, which are to commemorate the people who sacrificed their lives during the fight for independence, and the spirit spread by Mahatma Gandhi of his great non-violence movement and unity in diversity across the globe.
The programme includes cultural performances, quiz, colourful fashion show, drawing competition for children, patriotic dance and music, prize ceremony, and the food courts, which includes Dosas (Indian saviour crepe ), spicy chutneys, and the Indian chaats, samosas, biryani and many more. This will be a free event and everyone is welcome.
The event is organized by ICSC and will be joined by the students from NUI Galway, GMIT, the Indian community members from Loughrea, Tuam, Cliffden, and Ennis, and Irish friends.
