O’Malley Construction has just completed work on almost eight acres of amenity lands at Roscam. The protective fencing in place during construction was removed last Friday, opening up the entire eight acres of parkland to public access. The facility is located between O’Malley Construction’s estates at Caiseal Cam, Ros Caoin, and Boireann Bheag. It is situated on a gentle slope, facing the sea, with unobstructed views over Galway Bay and its environs.
The landscaping and amenity facilities were designed by landscape architect, Cass Roche in conjunction with the parks department of Galway City Council. The result shows how good planning and foresight can provide proper amenities for residents and create a social ‘heart’ for neighbourhoods. O’Malley has completed the construction of the entire parkland although a number of pitches will require a further growing season before being available for heavy usage.
The facilities provided include enclosed tennis courts and kickabout courts with all weather surface and floodlighting, a playground, various grass pitches, a water feature, and a number of specially commissioned sculptures. The parkland enjoys lots of hard surface pathways for easy access and relaxing walks throughout the amenity. Adjacent car parking has also been provided.
An O’Malley Construction spokesperson said that the company was delighted to have been involved right from the beginning in providing this generous amenity space and parkland. The spokesperson also confirmed that “the main elements of construction were provided by Galway based subcontractors. This provided much needed employment over the past months”. An expression of appreciation was also noted in respect of the co-operation provided by Galway City Council in bringing this project to a successful conclusion.
